In a first stage of the programme, 16 lap joint shear tests were performed on isolated bolts, considering different bolt diameters, ply thicknesses and edge distances. The failure mode, initial stiffness, slip load and elongation stiffness were recorded for each test. In a next stage, 12 cantilever tests were carried out on full scale connections with various levels of pre-stress in the bolts. It is demonstrated that, by using a simple mechanical model, the moment-rotation behaviour of the connection can be predicted from to the load-elongation behaviour of a single bolt.
