The FE models for Czech vowels "A" and "I" were analysed for increasing size of a cleft by using modal analysis of the FE models. The experimental verification was performed by normal subjects (continual changes of opening of the soft palate and nasalization of vowels following nasal consonant) and patients with velopharyngeal insufficiency. The results of numerical solutions are in a reasonable agreement with clinical observations.
