Buffer ring analysis

Abstract eng:
It has been found there is a probability of a sudden break of all 20 bolts fastening primary header cover. This cover separates the medium of the primary circuit header from that in the secondary circuit. of a nuclear power plant. A buffer ring is inserted between these covers to prevent the impact of these covers. The buffer ring has a form of a short thin-walled tube having a limited axial force due to buckling of its wall. Static buckling force of the buffer ring wall due to an axial load can be obtained with sufficient accuracy by a computer simulation. However it is hardly possible to simulate the effect of inertia forces on the resistance against buckling. That´s why the approximate solution based on an analytical description of simple supported bar in elastic medium has been used and the experimental analysis of dynamic loading model has been performed.
