Dynamic interaction of bridge and truck with semi-active suspension

Abstract eng:
Trucks moving around the roads and bridges cause their wear and damage. The mechatronical solution can help by the usage of controlled variable suspension damper that leads to the decrease of road-tyre forces and road damage. Such truck suspensions are called road-friendly truck suspension. This paper investigates whether the road-friendly truck suspension is also bridge-friendly and vice versa and even more whether there exists a specifically bridge-friendly truck suspension which reduces the bridge loading. A simple dynamical model of truck-bridge interaction compares the behaviour of commercial passive, road-friendly and bridge-friendly suspensions on bridge spans 5-50 m. The local reduction of bridge loading by the truck has been detected in all cases.
