NEW FIB GUIDELINE ON GREEN CONCRETE STRUCTURES

Abstract eng:
A new fib Guideline on Green Concrete Structures is published in 2012. It is meant to be a practically oriented guideline to reduce the environmental impact of concrete structures throughout their full life-cycle. The scope of the guideline is to provide the owners, the users, the designers and the producers of concrete with inspiration and tools to implement green measures into concrete structures. The article summarizes the guideline including choice of functional units and environmental parameters and ways to measure these. The focus will be on the gross list of green concrete technologies which is the tool box from where appropriate green technologies can be selected. The tool box includes choice of raw materials, optimization of the concrete mix design, green concrete methods, recycling and green construction methods and uses of concrete. Also accounting principles and benchmark data will be shown as well as representative examples to illustrate the guideline. An important view of the guideline is that the complete life-cycle must be considered and that there is not a single correct solution to design and build a green concrete structure. It depends strongly on the local condition in the place to use.
