VISUALIZATION OF CO2 UPTAKE BY DEMOLISHED CONCRETE

Abstract eng:
Demolished concrete is often recycled as a crusher-run in Japan. It captures CO2 as the new surface is exposed to the air. This uptake is caused by carbonations of hydration products in hardened cement paste. Then the amount of captured CO2 varies with the particle size and exposed humidity condition during the storage. This paper especially shows the results of the investigation by the working group in the JSCE subcommittee 219 on the visualization methods for CO2 uptake by demolished concrete to realize the rapid CO2 capturing by hardened cement paste. Then, the paper recommends the attractive and educational method by using a gas sampling bag.
