UTILIZATION OF IRON-WELDING SLAG AS AGGREGATE FOR PRECAST CONCRETE PRODUCTS

Abstract eng:
Iron-welding slag is one of industrial wastes discharged in large quantities from shipyards. This study aimed at proposing an idea of utilizing the iron-welding slag as aggregate of concrete. In the former part of this work, experimental investigations were conducted to evaluate compressive strength of concrete including the iron-welding slag aggregate and leaching amount of harmful elements from the concrete. In the latter part, to investigate the applicability of the concrete with iron-welding slag aggregate to precast panels, flexural loading tests were carried out on the panels made of concrete in which 60 – 80% of coarse aggregate was replaced by iron-welding slag.
