HIGH-DURABLE CONCRETE STRUCTURE CO-HABITING WITH MARINE TIDAL ECOLOGICAL SYSTEM

Abstract eng:
The previous research pointed out that concrete in marine tidal environment is covered with an abundance of marine sessile organisms and that these marine sessile organisms can contribute not only to extending the service life of RC structures but also to preserving marine ecological systems. This paper verified the results of the previous paper regarding the durability enhancement of RC structures with marine sessile organisms. Concrete cores were extracted from field RC structure and laboratory tests were carried out. The results strongly supported that concrete structures in a marine tidal environment can be highly durable as a result of co-habiting with marine sessile organisms.
