000002102 520__ $$2eng$$aThe study presented herein is a preliminary part of an on-going research on post-crack performance of steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) column under quasi-static laterally-cyclic loading. The project aims to utilize steel fibers in rectangular RC columns as an optional approach for seismic resistance. A SFRC mix (23.5 MPa concrete with hooked end steel fiber at 1.0% by volume fraction) was selected to be compared with a counterpart plain concrete in a full-scale cantilever column test. While pressed axially to the load ratio of 0.2, the columns were laterally cyclically loaded to several drift ratios until collapse. The lateral loads corresponding to the displacement were recorded. From the results, it was found that the SFRC column withstood the lateral movement to a much larger distance than the RC column. It also had less spalling and disintegration. Thus, from the sustainability point of view, the SFRC column is of great potential alternative to structures in a seismic region. ……….
