THERMODYNAMIC MODELING OF CARBONATION OF CEMENTITIOUS MATERIALS IN CONTACT WITH SUPERCRITICAL CO2

Abstract eng:
An existing analytical model is extended to simulate the attack of supercritical CO2 on cementitious materials. First, the existing carbonation model was modified by implementing the physical properties of the supercritical CO2. Furthermore, experiments of carbonation were conducted to verify the validity of the proposed model. It is found that the analysis model provides good estimation under 10% CO2 concentration, while it underestimates the results under supercritical conditions. Further investigation on the diffusion mechanism and porosity distribution is necessary to be able to give reasonable analytical estimation.
