ENGINEERING PROPERTIES OF COMPOSITE GEOPOLYMER MORTAR

Abstract eng:
This study investigates the engineering properties of composite geopolymer mortar manufactured by replacing the slag with metakaolin of 0, 30 and 70% by weight, together with three volumetric ratios of sand of 0, 10, and 30%, respectively. The experimental results show that, with the increase of volumetric ratio of sand, the dynamic modulus of elasticity, ultrasonic wave velocity and thermal conductivity of composite geopolymer increase by 28%, 4.4% and 21.3%, respectively. But the compressive strength and shrinkage of composite geopolymer decrease by 23% and 15.4%, respectively. It is concluded that the addition of sand into the composite geopolymer tends to reduce its shrinkage at the expense of lowering its compressive strength.
