THE COMBINATION OF ELECTROMAGNETIC NON-DESTRUCTIVE EVALUATION TECHNIQUES FOR THE ESTIMATION OF RAPID CHLORIDE MIGRATION DIFFUSION COEFFICIENT

Abstract eng:
Electrical resistivity can be used as an indirect method to determine the chloride diffusion characteristics of in situ concrete. Chloride diffusion coefficient pertaining to cover concrete is an important input parameter for reinforced concrete service life design models. However theoretical and empirical models for relating resistivity to diffusion only hold for saturated and uncontaminated concrete and are therefore not valid when applied to in situ concrete of unknown condition. This paper proposes the combination of electromagnetic assessment techniques sensitive to water content, chloride content and porosity to estimate the Rapid Chloride Migration (RCM) diffusion coefficient of in situ concrete.
