A REVIEW OF PERFORMANCE-BASED SUSTAINABILITY DESIGN METHOD FOR CONCRETE STRUCTURES

Abstract eng:
The evolution of design philosophies of concrete structures has moved from considerations of strength alone to include durability and sustainability performance requirements. To cope with this current trend the draft 2010 fib model recommends a reliability-based methodology for the design of more sustainable concrete structures. In this approach, the performance of the structure (R), with respect to its impact on the environment and society, is verified against a target performance (S). The aim of this paper is to review of the approach to performance-based sustainability design of concrete structures and its inherent limitations.
