This paper describes application of high-strength prestressing tendons to actual PC bridges from Guidelines for Design and Construction of High Strength Prestressing Tendons to PC Structures. Five full-size bridges using concrete with strengths of 40 MPa (n=4) or 60 MPa (n=1) and prestressing steel strands with a tensile strength of 1600 MPa (n=2) or 1900 MPa (n=3) were designed to study this concept. The studied prestressed concrete (PC) girder types were continuous frame box PC girders (n=2) and continuous box PC girders (n=3). Design results indicate that the cable length as well as the weight and number of cables in girders were reduced by 23-25%, 17-20%, and 22-25% respectively by increasing both concrete strength and prestressing steel strand-strength. Further, the height of the continuous PC girder constructed using normal-strength concrete and high-strength prestressing steel strand was reduced by 15% while the girder span increased by 17 percent.
