The solver is based on a Krylov-type technique with a semi-analytical preconditioner. The method is adapted for use on High Performance Computers with parallel architecture for both common and distributed memory. It possesses very fast convergence for intermediate time frequencies normally used for full waveform inversion and demonstrates acceptable accuracy. Full waveform inversion (FWI) currently is the most promising tool for estimating subsurface parameters, which is the ultimate goal in exploration seismology. Before applying it to field data, considerable preprocessing and enhancement of the signal is necessary. As a rule after preprocessing a very strong S-wave component is still present in the data. To remove it we need a lot of effort. At the same time, we can lose the P-wave data containing important information about the subsurface. This is the motivation behind using full wave field, that is, P-, S- and surface waves and developing elastic FWI. Simulation of wave propagation plays a very important role in FWI since it is done many times for a huge amount of sources for a range of time frequencies. We present iterative algorithm for 3D elastic wave equation and demonstrate its effectiveness in numerical implementation of FWI.
