PROBABILISTIC EFFECT OF AGGREGATE GRADING ON PARTIAL SAFETY FACTORS FOR CONCRETE

Abstract eng:
The present day codes use single partial safety factors for concrete irrespective of its compressive strength and reliability index, when there is high level of uncertainty with regards to forces that act on structures and material strengths. In the present work, an effort has been made to develop partial safety factors for varying reliability indices and relate them to concrete compressive strength. The compressive strength data generated, for variation in aggregate grading, is analysed using the Hasofer Lind’s method considering normal probability distribution function, and partial safety factors are computed with respect to 95% confidence level values.
