SFRSCC –A SUSTAINABILITY STUDY ON THE CONSTRUCTION OF A FOUNDATION SLAB

Abstract eng:
A Danish innovation consortium is preparing a set of guidelines on the mix design and execution of steel fiber reinforced self-compacting concrete (SFRSCC). The guidelines are based on full scale experimental studies. This paper describes a full scale casting of a foundation slab where the structural design is governed by a maximum crack width requirement of 0.2mm. The sustainability of two designs are compared, one with only conventional reinforcement and one with a combination of steel fibers and conventional reinforcement Results revealed that the combined reinforcement solution produced steel and cost savings of approximately 45 % and 15 %, respectively, i.e. a more sustainable solution.
