The construction industry, which is a major employer, must play its part in reducing emissions of greenhouse gases such as CO2. This means quantitative assessments of the CO2 emissions from construction sites are needed. As an example, the authors calculated the CO2 emissions from the construction of an underpass at the Harajuku intersection on Japan’s National Route 1 in Kanagawa Prefecture. It was found that total CO2 emissions from this construction work were 6600 tons. Moreover, the authors analyzed the impact of CO2 emission factors of cement and steel. The authors also compared calculated CO2 emissions with actual measured values.
