POTENTIAL AND EFFORTS RELATED TO BLENDING BLAST FURNACE SLAG INTO CEMENT

Abstract eng:
The manufacture of cement entails impacts in the form of resource and energy use along with GHG generation. BF slag lends itself to reducing such impacts. Studies have indicated the possibility of expanding BF slag use for cement in Japan to over twice the current level. Efforts in Japan aimed at expanding BF slag for use in cement, such as the Green Purchasing Law (“Green” in this paper), buildings, and the improvement of concrete construction are discussed together with characteristics such as suppressing ASR, preventing chloride damage, suppressing hexavalent chromium elution, and prolonging strength-guaranteed material age.
