However, in the cases in which the façade’s available thickness is not enough for the installation of a SATE system, the only way to improve the energy conservation without losing the thermal inertia is by the modification of the material’s radiant properties. According to the steady state and pseudo-time dependent state estimations (published in the Second Conferences on Historical Mortars 2010), energy demand savings can be achieved by increasing the reflectance in medium wavelength (760 nm - 2500 nm). In this paper, we show the reflectance values of a reference mortar, composed by lime and a dolomitic sand (commonly used in the last layer of the renders) as well as a hardened lime paste. They are compared with the mixtures of lime and microsilica, both in 1:1 and 1:3 dosage, by volume. An increase of reflectance within 3% and 16% was observed in the last ones in comparison with the reference mortar. This difference is less emphasized in the case of the hardened lime paste for which an increase of 4% was achieved. As consequence, a reduction up to 28% of the energy demand in the buildings, over which it will be applied, is observed in summertime.
