Restoration of decorative elements moulded on site design and selection of gypsum-lime compatible products

Abstract eng:
This paper presents a procedure for the development of an efficient, durable and compatible solution for the restoration of gypsum-lime elements moulded on site. Based on the results of the characterization of ancient samples and on experimental application tests specially designed for this purpose, two formulations of new restoration products were initially defined and submitted to an extensive experimental campaign comprising physical and mechanical characterization studies. The results obtained were analysed and a final formulation was selected on the basis of the compatibility criteria previously established from the original materials.
