Considering the lack of comparative research on mortars of the oldest stone bridge of Prague, this research aimed to characterise, document and mutually compare the samples taken from different constructional elements of the bridge, i.e. the rubble masonry core, the bridge deck and the pavement. Composition of the mortars, their macro and microscopic structure and mechanical properties are discussed. Special attention is paid to the mortar binder as the most important quality factor. The results are compared with the published characteristics of the mortars from similar mediaevel constructions especially from the core of the Charles Bridge.
