Furthermore, lime binder’s suitability for interventions was comparatively evaluated through identical mortars’ manufacture procedures and study of their technological and mechanical characteristics. Selected results of this research are presented and discussed in the present paper. The impact of a range of calcination temperatures (900°C, 950°C, 1000°C, 1100°C, 1200°C) to binder reactivity, maturation capacity and mechanical properties were studied and evaluated. Taking into account that the raw material used was a fine-grained, dense, high calcium limestone, it is concluded that temperatures over 1000˚C may give reverse results to binders’ key chemical and physical characteristics (available lime, hydration reactivity, yield, maturation capacity, consistency, water retentiveness, volume stability). Although following production processes (slaking, maturation) provide a range of opportunities for the amelioration of binder properties, calcination temperature remains most influential for their integral performance. These results directly relate to mortar quality and application efficiency which, in turn, ensures optimal structural performance and durability.
