Heritage and Identity: the challenges for the development of the cultural tourism in Vale do Ivaí - Paraná State - Brazil

The cultural tourism, in the last few years, has received bigger attention due to the search for a high-quality tourism, the possibility of activity's diversification and the non seasonality of cultural resources turns it into a rather attractive option. The cultural heritage appears as the main attraction for the segment and may acquire visibility and appreciation from the touristic activity. The cities of Apucarana, Faxinal, Fênix and Jandaia do Sul, located in the north of the Paraná State - Brazil, holds a rich cultural heritage that express its popular culture, but in most of the times finds itself with lacking in recognition. The main objective of this paper lays, therefore, on identifying the most relevant aspects for planning and evelopment of cultural tourism in those cities. The exploratory research included bibliographic rummage and field visiting. The results and discussions raise questions about the main challenges to be considered so that the development of cultural tourism in these cities becomes able to create social and economic benefits for the local community.
