An experimental requalification of Historic Rawat Fort near Islamabad, Pakistan

Abstract eng:
The paper proposes, on built heritage reuse, a research collaboration within the University of Naples Federico II and Faculty of Architecture and Design, COMSATS, of Islamabad. The experiment of knowledge transfer from the italian experience has already started as a first step in the investigation process of this fort and its immediate context. The potential use of the fort is envisioned as that of extension of the activities of the immediate local context and also to explore its potential as a heritage building for tourism in a wider context to generate revenue for its maintenance and upkeep for sustainability. The model of study of constraints can be used in organizing all aspects of the process including: 1) Analysis of the building layers constraints and its context. 2) Understanding the ambience of the building – to give it new life. 3) Understanding geometry, materials and construction techniques to save these from further loss. 4) Exploring modern materials and construction techniques that can be used respecting the original character.
