Analyzing Uncertainty in Civil Engineering

Abstract eng:
Understanding the effects of model and parameter uncertainty in engineering systems has become a major theme in the past decades. Many mathematical approaches have been designed: from sensitivity analysis, probability theory, random sets, interval analysis to fuzzy sets and more. This paper highlights current fuzzy, random and stochastic methods in sensitivity analysis and illustrates the issue at the hand of an application in aerospace engineering that has been performed at our institute.
