Concept of Apparent Thermal Conductivity in High-Temperature Investigations of Porous Materials

Abstract eng:
The concept of apparent thermal conductivity for high-temperature investigations of porous materials taking into account moisture transport, convective and radiative modes of heat transport, phase change processes and chemical reactions is presented in the paper. Methods for its practical determination are analyzed. An example of application of the apparent thermal conductivity concept for a hybrid-fiber reinforced cement composite exposed to high temperatures up to 1000°C is given. The practical utilization of the concept in the assessment of the behavior of porous materials and their multi-layered systems exposed to high temperatures is discussed.
