In this research, such software is being developed. Governing equations are derived using a classical equilibrium approach coupled with assumptions on the kinematics of deformation and constitutive response of the rope material. This approach is found to be convenient in dealing with the contribution of frictional forces on rope response. An analytical model for evaluating the degradation of rope properties under both monotonic and cyclic loads is incorporated in the software through a three-parameter damage model. Simulation of rope response is performed using displacement control. This paper summarizes the formulation of the computational model.
