In most applications, bond quality is critical to achieving the design performance of the FRP patch system. This issue requires reliable nondestructive evaluation (NDE) techniques capable of characterizing the bond properties. This research proposes a method using guided waves because guided waves are suited to the geometry of the system and have the advantage of being time-efficient. In the experiments, laser ultrasonic techniques are used to generate and detect guided waves. To interpret the experimental results, appropriate digital signal processing techniques, namely shorttime Fourier transform (STFT) techniques, are employed. Dispersion curves obtained are related to behavior of guided waves in the system, which is mainly affected by the adhesive bond’s properties. This information will determine the bond quality.
