Many existing models for sand are not capable of describing the behavior ranging from very low to very high confining stresses. In this study, a generalized plasticity model is extended to capture the dilatancy and strength properties of sand under a wide range of stress levels. The model is validated with the experimental results of several different types of sand under drained conditions.
