The quake brought heavy damages to many wooden residential houses and traditional wooden buildings. This paper is a report of preliminary joint investigation on the structural and geotechnical aspects of the damages. Ground vibration and ground deformation were found to be the main cause that led to damages to low earthquake resistant buildings and other associated damages during the earthquake.
