This paper provides details about experiments being conducted on the six degree-of-freedom shake tables at the Structural Engineering Earthquake Simulator Laboratory at the University at Buffalo. The specimen is a 1:20 scale model constructed from steel (the prototype material). The model is designed such that the members would remain elastic during design earthquakes. The movements of the legs are tracked and strains in the portions of the crane that were determined to be vulnerable by the analyses are measured. Details of the experimental set up are presented in this paper.
