000010685 520__ $$2eng$$aThe objective of this paper is to propose the methodology to evaluate the performance of long span bridges under a spectrum of earthquake ground motions, considering the difficulty and cost in inspection, reparability and replaceability. Based on the vulnerability analysis and the principle of minimum life-cycle cost, the optimum performance objectives are also proposed. The method and procedures presented in this paper can provide guidelines for the seismic design of major brides in the future.
