It is known from the analysis that elastomeric bearings and restrainers start to fail or yield progressively from edges due to rotation of the decks. It is also shown that design concept to evaluate the seismic demands of bearings and restrainers by dividing the total seismic demand by number of devices underestimates real seismic demands at the edges of girders due to combined rotation and translation of the deck during excitation.
