This building was built in 1972 and located at the center of Tokamachi city (seisimic intensity 6+). Some columns located at half side of the building failed in shear severely and the remaining seismic performance was found to be 62% of the non damaged original structure. This was supposed to be caused by rotational vibration generated by eccentrically located reinforced concrete and block walls. The objectives of this study were to examine the cause of the damage of the building using earthquake response analysis and evaluating method of seismic performance calculated according to currently used standard in Japan.
