000011247 520__ $$2eng$$aStructural control is emerging technology for hazard mitigation in civil engineering and has been comprehensively studied over the world. This paper introduces the research and applications of passive control, active control and smart control, which include novel passive dampers, functional materials and smart dampers, active control systems, and their performance investigations; control algorithms for nonlinear structures; design methods adopted in the National Seismic Design Code for Buildings; and applications of structural control technology in buildings, bridges and offshore platform. Considering that one structure can have various failure mode and different failure modes make the structure with different reliability. The failure mode control, which makes the structure have highest reliability, is also studied.
