The aim of this paper is three-part: (a) to provide details of a series of shaking table experiments, (b) to understand the failure behavior at the certain excitation, and (c) to demonstrate that the response of these experiments can be simulated accurately under the damage-plastic model of geotechnical materials. The conclusion of this study should be of interest and use to professionals involved in the design of tunnel portal structures.
