The consistency viscoplastic Hsieh-Ting-Chen four-parameter model of concrete, modified from the static Hsieh-Ting-Chen four-parameter model based on the results of uniaxial tensile and compressive dynamic tests of concrete, was adopted. This model took account into the effect of strain rates and hydrostatic pressure on dynamic behaviors of concrete. Then, an implicit backward Euler iterative algorithm was proposed. Results showed that the strain rate affected the first principal stresses, the maximal equivalent visco-plastic strain rate of the arch dam. It played an important role in the safety assessment of arch dams located in earthquake active area.
