Nonlinear interaction of initial leaning of r/c slender tower with its seismic response

Abstract eng:
Capacity and dynamic response analysis of a 160 m high, reinforced concrete, industrial chimney under seismic actions including its initial leaning is presented. The chimney designed with respect to dead load and wind action effects is tested for the seismic action. A detailed analysis of non-linear interaction of the effect of initial leaning of the chimney and simultaneous seismic action in form of a non-elastic, time history analysis to familiar, benchmark NS component of El Centro accelerogram is carried out. A detailed numerical, parametric analysis is presented. The seismic response due to simultaneous action of the leaning and seismic excitations is analyzed applying various Eurocode 8, structural safety criteria.
