Macroscopic yield curves based on statistically similar RVEs for 3D dual-phase steel microstructures

Abstract eng:
In this contribution, the determination of macroscopic yield curves based on Statistically Similar RVEs (SSRVEs) for 3D Dual-Phase (DP) steel microstructures is presented. SSRVEs are less complex than RVEs based on real microstructures and thus enable an increase of efficiency in FE2 computations. They are constructed such that they represent the morphological properties and mechanical behavior of an underlying real microstructure. In the yield behavior of DP steel, the Bauschinger effect is observed, which is related to the important spring back effect in sheet metal forming processes. The yield behavior of a real microstructure is compared with the yield behavior of an SSRVE by analyzing 2D yield surfaces and Bauschinger effect observed in virtual experiments with reversed loading, where good agreement is found. The SSRVE compared here succeeds in generating a similar yield surface based on monotonic uniaxial and biaxial tests.
