Retractable structure for emergency buildings

Abstract eng:
This paper describes an investigation of a retractable membrane structure for emergency buildings currently being drafted. The proposed model comprises a tensioned membrane roof and a scissor-hinged supporting system. The design of a lightweight structure with a minimum of pre-fabricated components which would be easy to transport, simple and quick to assemble is the aim of this study. The first steps of conceiving the geometric model, the processing control mechanisms of folding and unfolding and of the preliminary structural analysis suggested that the folding roof would be a viable solution. However, more accurate analyses are required to optimize the configuration of the proposed model.
