Structural design optimization can help to optimize the total cost of wind turbine implementation. In this research, we evaluate first the energy resource in Mozambique especial at Ponta d’Ouro as a case study in order to analyze the viability of wind energy development as well as define suitable size of turbine taking into account the wind energy regime. Secondly, we statically analyze different wind turbine tower in order to establish an optimum tower in terms of cost; this was achieved by comparing the weight of structure since the price of steel is measured in cost/tons. From the comparative result, we conclude that guyed truss tower is lighter in terms of weight. But, the next phase we shall focus on dynamic analysis to establish a more accuracy conclusion.
