Experimental studies were carried out considering eight groups of beam-to-upright boltless connections with different geometrical details. Effects of various parameters, such as upright profile and thickness, pallet beam height and the number of tabs in the beam-end-connector on cyclic behaviour of connections were investigated. Displacements and strains were measured at strategic locations. The initial rotation stiffness, ultimate moment capacity, hysteretic characterisation, as well as failure modes were discussed and presented in this paper. The failure modes of boltless connections are categorised into three basic types: tab crack, tearing/buckling of the upright and curling/flexural buckling of the beam-end-connector. The combinations of these failure modes were generally observed in cyclic tests. Furthermore, the pinching characteristics of boltless connections can be clearly found from experimental moment-rotation curves. This study provides an experimental basis to establish the hysteretic model of these connections and to improve the accuracy of numerical simulation of cold-formed steel storage rack systems subjected to seismic loads.
