Numerical analysis of failure mechanism of eccentrically compressed reinforced concrete columns

Abstract eng:
An effort analysis of reinforced concrete columns statically loaded by longitudinal force with constant eccentricity was presented in the paper. The analysis was developed using computational method based on assumptions of the finite differential method and dynamic relaxation method taking into account the arc-length parameter. The model of bar element was developed and considerations in the range of modeling of structural materials were carried out. The states of load carrying capacity, displacement, stress, strain and cracking were analyzed. Description of effort state of columns was concentrated on study of load carrying capacity, softening and degradation of critical sections which leads to the failure mechanism of structural element. Numerical results of the analysis of reinforced concrete columns indicates on high efficiency of the developed method in description of effort process and forecasting the failure mechanism of columns. Obtained numerical results were compared with experimental and theoretical results taken from the literature.
