Finite element analyses of EB-FRP to concrete joints

Abstract eng:
Numerous computational studies have been reported on the simulation of ExternallyBonded (EB) Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP)-to-concrete joints. However, these computational models have not been extensively used to study the joints and develop bond-slip relationship of the interface. Therefore, the bond-slip relationship of the interface has been developed mainly by laboratory testing so far. The Finite Element (FE) analyses in this work show that the numerical simulation can not only be used to develop bond-slip relationship of the joint, but also derive results that cannot be obtained from experimental testing. Damage plasticity theory is used as the constitutive model of concrete material. FE analyses are used to simulate pull-of tests of EB-FRP joints. It is interesting to find that the interfacial bond-slip curve has a shape different from all existing models. However, such change in shape does not make a significant difference to the global interfacial load-slip response.
