Numerical investigations on post-tensioned timber frames

Abstract eng:
The aim of the paper is to introduce a reliable numerical model for post-tensioned timber frames with hardwood reinforcement in the joint. The model is developed in the scope of an ongoing research project at ETH Zurich to represent the structural behavior in the elastic range for research purposes, as well as the practical design of these frames. The frame model uses rotational springs to represent the connection response. It is based on the analytical model and validated against the results of a detailed model with quadrilateral finite elements. The outcomes of the analyses are compared for a single-story frame structure. The results of the pushover test performed on such a structure in the laboratory of the Institute of Structural Engineering are also available. The evaluation of the frame model describes the main parameters of the structural response accurately and time efficiently.
