Simulation of the thermoforming process using the ANSYS Polyflow software

Abstract eng:
In this paper, the influence of the process parameters and mold geometry were investigated with the ANSYS Polyflow software. For precise description of polymer behavior, the integral viscoelastic model (KBKZ) was used. The performed analyses allowed the formulation of several conclusions. The decrease of the side wall width does not lead to significant decrease of side and bottom wall thicknesses but rather to more non-uniform distribution of the wall thickness. The increase of the side wall width leads to significant increase of wall thicknesses, more uniform distribution of the wall thickness (which is related to contact of the sheet with the mold) and significant increase of the cycle time. The increase of side wall thickness with the increase of the side wall width is related to lower ratio of the area before and after forming.
