Simulation research on a new effective cooling system of injection mold

Abstract eng:
Injection molding is one of the most important polymer processing technologies. The cooling stage takes at least a half of the entire production process. Effective an uniform cooling becomes not only the major factor to determine the productivity but is responsible for aesthetic, usable and quality features of produced parts as well. In this study, fully developed laminar flow and heat transfer in an inter nally finned tube are investigated through application of the numerical methods. To compare the accuracy of the results research was performed by using the Finite Elements Method (FEM) and the Method of Fundamental Solutions (MFS). The obtained results show that the heat transfer improves significantly if more fins are used. This phenomenon proves that increasing of the surface of cooling channel allows to reduce the time of cooling stage.
