Numerical identification of advanced progressive collapse resisting mechanisms for RC framed structures

Abstract eng:
Progressive collapse theoretical and experimental studies reveal the existence of several resisting mechanisms apart from well-known Flexural Action mechanism, currently considered even in recent risk assessment guidelines. This paper’s main objective is to numerically identify, starting from a well-known experimental study, the supplementary resisting mechanisms of RC frame structures. In addition, a series of parametrical studies are carried out to achieve a better understanding of the supplementary progressive collapse resisting mechanisms, as well as their effectiveness on the ultimate load bearing capacity of structures.
