However, the starting structure has a uniform distribution of dampers instead of a bare frame (without dampers). The above is motivated from the fact that the performance of structures with uniform distribution of dampers is reasonably good in general. Two strategies are then proposed to reallocate the dampers. The first strategy is that one damper at the story with minimum drift ratio is moved to the story with maximum drift ratio. The second strategy is that certain numbers of dampers at the same number of stories with lower drift ratios are moved to the stories with larger drift ratios. Numerical examples demonstrate that the proposed approach requires much fewer analyses than the SSSA. However, the maximum drift ratios obtained from the proposed approach and the SSSA are almost the same. This indicates the efficiency of the proposed approach.
